Services Provided By CIS at YWLA
Individual and Group Counseling
We have two licensed social workers that provide mental health counseling for our students. Most students are seen individually, but we offer several counseling groups at YWLA. The groups offered cover a wide range of topics including: healthy relationships, discovering identity and individuality, peer mediation, safe social media use, girl's empowerment.
Individual Mentoring
Communities In Schools is a proud partner of AmeriCorps. At YWLA, we are lucky to have one full-time AmeriCorps member and one BSW intern who provide mentoring services to students. Mentors work with students to help achieve personal goals and give them a safe place to talk about things happening in their lives.
Academic Support
We offer homework help and tutoring as needed to students. We focus on helping our graduating 8th grade students by discussing the transition to high school and taking them on high school campus visits. This year, we are facilitating a workshop for eighth graders applying to magnet high schools.
Community Providers
In order to best meet the needs of the YWLA students and serve as many students as possible, CIS brokers several services from outside providers. Students being served by outside providers either participate in individual or group counseling programs. The outside providers brought to the YWLA campus include GenAustin, Expect Respect by SAFE, and The Christi Center .
Resources
We can provide school supplies, eyeglasses vouchers, snacks, hygiene products and make referrals to outside agencies to help reduce barriers for our students and their families.
